Creating a montage is such a special way to celebrate your child’s story and all the people who’ve been part of it. These simple guidelines are here to make the process easy and enjoyable, and to help us create the best montage ever.

ORGANIZING YOUR PHOTOS

You can organize your photos any way you like — these are just suggestions based on past montages. If you’d like your montage to appear chronologically (from birth to now), please number your photos. Otherwise, we’ll place them in a more mixed, storytelling order that moves back and forth in time a bit.

Suggested Categories & Quantities:

  • Baby / Toddler Photos: 10–15
  • With Parents: 15–20
  • With Siblings: 15–20
  • With Extended Family: 20–25
  • With Friends: As many as you’d like
  • Sports, Theater, Camp, or Special Activities: 10–15
  • Recent Photos of Bar/Bat Mitzvah Child: 8–10

These are just averages based on past montages — feel free to adjust! We recommend keeping the total to around 130–140 photos.

PREPARING FILES

You have the hardest part of this process: sorting through years of family photos and narrowing them down to the best ones. Don’t stress about perfection...just focus on choosing the shots that best capture your child’s spirit and the people and moments that matter most.

  • Please send high-resolution photos whenever possible (JPEG or PNG).
  • If sharing through a folder (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.), make sure we have download access.
  • For videos, MP4 or MOV formats work best.
  • Avoid screenshots or images downloaded from social media, as they’re usually lower resolution and may appear pixelated when enlarged.

Tips for Photos & Videos

  • We can crop and remove red-eye, but if a photo is blurry, it’s usually best to choose another one (unless it’s especially meaningful or the only one of a certain person).
  • You don’t need photos from every single age....snapshots from each stage or every few years work great.
  • Video clips add great energy! We use about 5–7 seconds per clip, so look for a fun or expressive moment.
  • Clips with sound are especially nice. We often include them near the end of a section, when the music transitions.

CHOOSING MUSIC

  • Most montages include 4–5 songs, depending on the length and number of categories.
  • Aim for a mix of tempos: upbeat songs for early years and activities, slower or more emotional ones for family moments.
  • If you’d like, we can help curate songs that match your child’s personality or the tone you want.
  • We have a list of songs that we've used in the past and are happy to share if you are interested.

OUR PROCESS

  1. Send your photos and videos (we’ll confirm we received everything).
  2. We organize and select materials according to your chosen categories and music.
  3. We create a first draft for your review.
  4. You’ll have the opportunity to request  edits before finalizing. We can do this over Zoom so that you can make changes, add any photos that are missing or remove photos to shorten, as needed.

Most montages take about 2–3 weeks to complete after we receive all materials, depending on length and complexity. We also offer quick turnaround jobs for an additional fee.

FINAL NOTES

Every montage is unique.  Some families include a photo of everyone who’s coming to the party, while others focus just on their kid. There are no rules — but we know that working together, we’ll create something  that will make you  smile (and maybe even tear up)  for years to come.
